The Top 10 Questions Asked of The Wine Spies

Q.
Will UPS deliver without an adult signature?
A.

No, because your order contains wine, both state and federal law requires proof that you are 21 years old. UPS will not, under any circumstances leave your package without a signature. You may, however, leave a note to have UPS try a neighbor. Also, if you provide a phone number with your order, you will get a phone call the night before expected delivery.

You say you cannot ship to my state, is this correct?
A.

Many states restrict wine shipments from retailers. You may be able to receive shipments from wineries, however, the rules for wineries and retailers are different. In some cases, it is the state’s overly complex tax and regulatory regime that prevents us from shipping. If we cannot ship to you, please contact your local state representatives and ask them to Free The Grapes!

Q.
Can I change my delivery address after I order?
A.

Yes, but please contact us immediately (within 24 hours of placing your order). Once your order has shipped we cannot change your address. If you are not able to have someone present to sign for your delivery, we can arrange to have your order held at a local UPS service center for will-call pick up.

Can you hold orders for future delivery?
A.

Yes, please contact us after your order and provide your order number and the date you would like to have your order shipped. Please note however, that we do not guarantee delivery by a specific date or time.

Your sale has expired, can I still order yesterday's wine?
A.

In most cases no. Once our sale is over, so is the deal. On some occasions we can place your order however don’t expect it on a regular basis. We recommend that you sign up for our Daily Dispatch (on our home page or in the My Account section) so you have advance notice of all of our wine sales.

My order was returned to you because I wasn't able to sign for it, what now?
A.

We are happy to arrange to reship your order to you. Please contact us with your order number. If you have a change in address also please include that. Please note that you will be charged the regular shipping rates for any reshipment (even if you used a promotion code with your regular order). Also, please note that we will not process refunds for wines returned to us under any circumstances unless the wine is damaged or spoiled and prior arrangements have been made.

I placed an order but have now changed my mind, can I cancel my order?
A.

Once your order has shipped we do not accept cancellations. Please note that we will only accept cancellations for an order on the day that you place the order up to midnight Pacific time. We also do not accept returns under any circumstances unless the wine is damaged or spoiled.

I love a particular wine or winery, how can I get them featured on The Wine Spies?
A.

Please feel free to make recommendations to us anytime. It is you, our extended network of operatives, that are our eyes and ears in the field. Just drop us a note and we’ll send someone to investigate.

A.

Ordering from The Wine Spies

I live in a state where you cannot ship, can I still order wine?
A.

Unfortunately, if you live in a prohibited state we cannot ship to you. The best way to correct this is to contact your local government officials and urge them to Free The Grapes.

I live in a state where I must self report tax on wine sales, how do I complete the forms?
A.

If you live in one of the states where you must self report wine sales taxes, we will provide you with the appropriate tax forms and instructions.

How are my ordered wines packaged for shipment?
A.

The Wine Spies use specially designed and carrier-approved packaging that protects wines against damage from handling, heat, cold, etc. during shipment. We also take great care in packing your wine, wrapping your bottles in tissue.

Q.
Do I really need to be 21 years old to order from The Wine Spies?
A.

Absolutely. It is a violation of both state and federal law to sell any alcoholic beverage to anyone under 21. The Wine Spies requires an adult signature for delivery of all orders from our site.

Returns

Q.
I didn't like the wine I purchased, can I return it for a refund?
A.

Unfortunately, once you open and taste your wine, we are unable to accept it as a return. We only accept returns for damaged shipments or spoiled wines.

Q.
My wine shipment was damaged, what do I do?
A.

If your wine delivery was damaged upon delivery, please have the carrier (UPS) make a note of the damage. Then contact us to arrange for a replacement or refund. We will not accept returns without a return authorization.

Q.
The wine I purchased was spoiled or bad, what do I do?
A.

If you recieved a spoiled or bad bottle of wine please contact us immediately to arrange for a replacement or refund. Please note that we only offer replacements or refunds for spoiled or damaged products. All other sales are final.
