With fruit from one of our very favorite vineyard sources, today’s 2009 Del Fava Mounts Vineyard Zinfandel is an extraordinary wine!

Perfectly ripe, juicy and oh so delicious, this very highly recommended really took our entire tasting panel by storm. Unanimously, we all declared this wine to be one of the finest Zinfandels we had tasted in some time. In fact, most of our panelists will be purchasing this wine for themselves, today.

Lovely and delicious on opening, it really springs to life with some decanting or swirling. Ripe, lush and packed with juicy flavors, this wine reminds us of the Dry Creek’s Zinfandels of old.

Tasting Profile

Look

Darkest garnet hues, with a slightly opaque core. At the edge of the glass, a ring of beautiful ruby catches the light. After swirling, tall skinny tears fall down from high up on the glass wall.

Smell

Complex and inviting with mint chocolate, ripe fig and light brown sugar leading the way. These lush aromas are followed by mocha, plum, bright red berry fruit, dried orange peel, and cherry cordials.

Taste

Fruit forward, savory, and bright. Expansive flavors coat the entire palate with ripe plum, dark cherry, mission fig, dark brown sugar, a subtle white pepper spice.

Finish

Long lingering fruit provides the ultimate finish for this complex Zinfandel. As the fruit begins to fade, eventually a soft dryness spreads across the entire palate.

Pairing

For a delicious treat, pair this wine with a spicy chipotle and cocoa powder Chili with a Zin reduction and ground beef.
