Today’s highly recommended 2010 Felta Creek Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, from our friends at De La Montanya Winery is an outstanding wine at a remarkable price.
Bright, aromatic and delicious, this wine delivers a plethora of flavors and aromas. On the palate, the wine is complex and elegant. On the nose, it bursts with bright aromas of sweet fruit and spice.
Balanced acids and flavors make the wine a wonderful and flexible companion for most foods. Pair with a pork tenderloin in a cherry and wine reduction.
A deep and rich crimson core falls off to soft purple hues at the edge of the glass. The wine appears weighty and substantial in the glass. After swirling, multiple rounds of thin, branching legs move slowly down the glass wall.
Balanced and light, with top layers of black cherry, dried cranberry and subtle cocoa dust. Beneath these primary notes, the wine exudes aromas of cedar, brown spice and clove.
Juicy, mouthwatering and light, with bright acids on entry. As the wine passes the mid-palate it skates smoothly across the rest of the palate, taking on a very elegant feel.
Leads with prominent notes of black cherry juice, plum and black cherry. Notes of subtle buckskin, green tobacco leaf and subtle dried rose petals begin to emerge as the fruits fade.
Very long and flavor packed with white pepper spice at the center palate. As the wine begins to move towards back palate, fine tannins give the wine a soft, drying grip.
What the Winery Says

About the Winery
A colorful legacy of Northern California pioneers, farmers and purveyors of wine that has transcended six generations of the De La Montanya family. In 1995 De La Montanya Estate Vineyards was founded with the planting of our Home Ranch in the heart of Russian River Valley. Eight years later, in summer of 2003, we officially opened the winery and tasting room in southern Dry Creek Valley, just off Westside Road and five minutes from downtown Healdsburg.
Currently we have a total of 270 acres of vineyards planted throughout Sonoma and Lake Counties. The appellations include Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Red Hills in Lake County. From each of these vineyards we hand pick the very best clusters to bring into the winery to produce a total of 4,000 cases annually. Priding ourselves on small batch, handcrafted winemaking, we’ve been known to make up to 18 different wines, ranging in size from one barrel (24 cases) to 12 barrels (280 cases). From this broad spectrum of varietals, our signature wines include Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Gewürztraminer and late harvest botrytis white.
In addition to our small lot winemaking we also pride ourselves on our specialized labels. These have included Tres Amour, Sybil, Amigos, Lunch Money, and Pinot Squared, with our most popular being the “Pin Up” series. The labels for our PinUp “Cabaret” and “Desire” wines are photographs of our female wine club members (photographed on location in the barrel room for backdrop), harkening back to World War II pinups.
Affectionately known as “The Barn,” our showcase winery and tasting room, is picturesquely located amidst our Felta Creek vineyard and apple orchard. It is here that our guests experience wine the way it is intended to be: with good friends and family in a welcoming, fun and beautiful environment. Outside the tasting room we have an outdoor kitchen complete with pizza oven, a gorgeous garden picnic area and even a bocce court. Back in the tasting room you might encounter Dennis telling stories about the peppered history of the De La Montanya family and the pioneering spirit that is found in each sip of our wine.
