Final Assessment
Who knew that perfectly-aged Petite Sirah could be this smooth? A mature, well aged wine that has waited for this moment almost 10 years, today’s 2003 Pacific Estates Petite Sirah comes to us from Paso Robles, where the small Petite Sirah berries benefit from the scorching sunshine.
Petite Sirah has a very high skin-to-juice ratio, allowing for very high-tannins, high acidity and extended aging. Today’s wine is a perfectly aged wine that our entire tasting panel really loved.
Act quickly, Dear Operative. This wine won’t last long…
Tasting Profile
Great depth of color, deep and dark purple, this wine gives you a preview of it’s rich taste with one glance at the color in the glass. After swirling, this sturdy-looking wine settles quickly, leaving streaks of purple that move slowly down the glass.
Tremendous concentration of fruit in the nose with elements of black cherry, prune and earth combining with subtle tobacco, black pepper and spice rounding out complex aromas. Very inviting and intriguing at the same time, this wine continue to open and expand the more you swirl it in the glass.
A rare occurrence of well aged elegance in the mouth. This combination of full-bodied and ultra-smooth is a magical occurrence in a Petite. Velvety and balanced with fruit, earth and supple tanning working perfect harmony.
Plums and blackberry flavors dominate in an earthy and complex structure. Barrel aged richness is a great balance beam for the components as they cross the palette with just enough acidity to tango with the wines great depth. As it opens, secondary fruits of cherry & blueberry arrive along with subtle hints of dark spice and black tea leaves.
A long & silky finish give the taster a treat, with long-lingering black fruits that fade gradually, yielding to earthen components of spice and black tea leaf.
