Final Assessment

Today’s fantastic Tuscan red blend is a bright, flavor-filled, Old World meets New wine that we love. Highly Recommended, this wonderfully balanced wine exhibits the best characteristics of traditional Italian winemaking, with wonderful fruit and New World sensibilities.

Bright acids give the wine an obvious food-pairing appeal, while ripe red fruits, dried meats, spice and a wholesome earthiness give make it very well-rounded. Pair as you would a traditional Sangiovese. Meat lasagne or a spicy penne dish would be a perfect compliment to this exceptional wine.

Tasting Profile

Look

Dark garnet with a slightly darker, softly opaque heart. When swirled, the wine settles quickly, leaving behind tall, thin, wine-stained tears.

Smell

Sweet and softly spiced, with bright red cherry, sweet plum, braised plum, smoky blueberry, raspberry and dark cedar. These are layered atop sweet tobacco, leather and brown spice.

Feel

Soft and round on entry. Then, quickly grippy and slightly dry. Medium-bodied and slightly chewy with fine, medium-grain tannins. Soft spice and a hint of minerals provide the perfect balance against the soft acidity.

Taste

Layers of red and black fruit combine with earthy characteristics. Black cherry, blackberry and plum meld layer over dark cedar, brown spice, sweet dried tobacco leaf and toasty oak.

Finish

Medium-long and very clean with lingering flavors of red fruit, spice and woodsy earthiness. As these fade, cedar, spice and minerals persist for another minute or more.

About the Winery

The “GREO” estate is 6 km from the historical center of Lucca in the town of Pieve San Stefano. The Viani Family owns GREO, and has produced wine and Lucchese extra virgin olive oil in the traditional stone olive oil mill for over a century.

Colline Lucchesi little-known, up-and-coming wine DOC in Tuscany overlooking the celebrated city of Lucca with its vineyards nestled in the foothills of the Apennine mountains. Heavenly sites and fine limestone/sandstone soils have provided excellent conditions for viticulture here ever since Lucca owed its allegiance to France.
